CELEBRITIES OF THE YEAR: FROM THE MOST BORING TO THE MOST TALENTED
MOST TALENTED AND LUCKIEST CELEBRITIES
FAMKE JANSSEN

Once again her change in direction precipitated a move - this time out to sunshiny Los Angeles. While there, she continued to take acting lessons, and eventually made her big screen debut in the poorly received Jeff Goldblum vehicle, Fathers and Sons. Soon after, Famke was offered a guest spot on the sci-fi series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, then in its prime. The role was quite memorable, more so in hindsight than it was at the time. Famke played a metamorphicrole who tantalizes the crew of the Enterprise, Captained by Patrick Stewart. Almost a decade later, she tantalized him again in X-Men, this time gifted with powers of telepathy and telekinesis. After logging a few more mediocre credits for mediocre movies, things finally started to take off for Janssen when she was cast as the first Bond Girl of the newly rejuvenated Bond franchise in Goldeneye. She played Xenia Onatopp, the villainous assassin who crushes her victims to death with her thighs (ahem… only in Bond…) The film brought Famke to everyone’s attention, but Janssen was wary - she was smart enough to realize that she was at a pivotal moment in her career. She could continue in the same vein and play up her sexuality and dark appeal, or she could try to branch out in other directions. She avoided the “Pamela Anderson” route and began taking on roles in a variety of independent films and smaller productions, most notably Woody Allen’s Celebrity, Rounders (opposite Matt Damon) and The Adventures of Sebastian Cole. The savvy star has also always been sure to maintain her mainstream recognition, with roles in films like The Faculty, House on Haunted Hill, X-Men, Made and most recently Don't Say a Word.

Halle Berry was born on August 14, 1968 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA to African
American father Jerome Berry, a former hospital attendant, and Caucasian
mother Judith Berry, a retired psychiatric nurse. Halle also has an older

in 1985 and a year later in 1986 when she was the first runner-up in the
Miss USA Pageant. After participating in the pageant, Halle became a model.
It would eventually lead to her first weekly TV series, 1989's "Living
Dolls" (1989), where she soon gained a reputation for her onset tenacity,
preferring to "live" her roles and remaining in character even when the
cameras stopped rolling. It paid off though when she reportedly refused to
bathe for several days before starting work on her role as a crack addict in
Spike Lee's Jungle Fever (1991) because the role provided her big screen
breakthrough. The following year, she was cast as Eddie Murphy's love
interest in _Boomerang (1992)_ (qv), one of the few times that Murphy was
evenly matched on screen. In 1994, Berry gained a youthful following for
her performance as sexy secretary Sharon Stone in Flintstones, The (1994).
She next had a highly publicized costarring role with Jessica Lange in the
adoption drama Losing Isaiah (1995). Though the movie received mixed
reviews, Berry didn't let that slow her down, and continued down her path to
superstardom. In 1998, she received critical success when she starred as a
street smart young woman who takes up with a struggling politician in Warren
Beatty's Bulworth (1998). The following year she won even greater acclaim
for her role as actress Dorothy Dandridge in made-for-cable's Introducing
Dorothy Dandridge (1999) (TV), for which she won a Golden Globe for Best
Actress in a TV Movie/Mini-Series. In 2000, she received box office success
in X-Men (2000) in which she played Storm, a mutant who has the ability to
control the weather.

She lived with her family in Bergisch Gladbach, a "small" large city within Cologne. Almost destined to be a fashion model, Heidi's father, Gunther, worked for a cosmetics company, while her mother, Erna, was a hairdresser. Heidi, while still in high school and then 18 years old, saw an ad in "Petra" magazine for a competition called "Model '92". Her friend encouraged her to send in some photos, and Heidi then traveled to Munich to compete on TV. She was intrigued by the idea, and she never even dreamed of the possibility of winning. Her friend encouraged her to send in some photos. What began as a "just for fun" contest, turned into a life-altering event for this beautiful model when she won the competition. Camino Drive, Beverly Hills, California, USA .
BIOGRAPHY SYNOPSIS:
Hollywood-style girl-next-door good looks and talents for singing, dancing,
acting, songwriting, and, lately, scriptwriting and producing, have kept
ambitious Jennifer Love Hewitt working hard in show business since the age of
ten. Her scream teen queen scene popularity began with I Know What You Did
Last Summer (1997), and was cinched with the sequel I Still Know What You Did
Last Summer (1998), but it was as a dancer and singer that she got her
professional career start (previously, the Waco-born youngster had entertained
at livestock shows and toured with the Texas Show Team) in 1989 as Robin in
the Disney Channel series Kids Incorporated. Children's exercise video Dance!
Workout With Barbie (1991) followed, with Hewitt on the floor amongst the
dancer-cisers, and on the soundtrack vocals. A debut CD entitled Love Songs
(released only in Japan) and Hewitt's first movie, Moody Munchie were released
in 1992. That year, as well, she joined the cast of her first TV network
series, Shaky Ground.
1993 brought Hewitt her first
starring role (in Little Miss Millions) and a “rebellious teen” part in her
first feature film, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit. A couple of TV series
daughter roles in The Byrds of Paradise (1994), and McKenna (1994) followed.
After the release of her second CD Let's Go Bang (in the U.S. by Atlantic) --
a collection that featured the 16-year-old's first co-written song, Free To Be
A Woman -- Hewitt landed the role of the brainy girlfriend, Sarah, in Party of
Five and successfully turned a minor recurring character into a series
regular. Hewitt's third CD, Jennifer Love Hewitt was released in 1996, and her
film career got underway with House Arrest (1996), Trojan War (direct-to-video
- 1997), The Senior Prom (TV documentary - 1997), the huge horror hit I Know
What You Did Last Summer (1997), Telling You (1998), Can't Hardly Wait (1998),
hit sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998), Audrey Hepburn (TV
biography - 1999), and The Suburbans (1999). A Party of Five TV series
spin-off, Time of Your Life, debuted in the fall of 1999 with Hewitt as
actor/producer. The upcoming film, Mary Me Jane (a.k.a. Cupid’s Love), was
co-written and produced by Hewitt, (who will play Jane) and no less than five
more films — Resident Evil, Girl In The Curl, Trust Me, Bunny and Breakers —
are in the works for 2000 release dates. Look for much more from this
multi-talented performer. At 21, her career is a decade old, but only
beginning.

CELEBRITIES OF THE YEAR: FROM THE MOST BORING TO THE MOST TALENTED
MOST TALENTED AND LUCKIEST CELEBRITIES
JENNY McCARTHY

BIOGRAPHY SYNOPSIS: Jenny McCarthy has a very interesting personality. Her vivacious charisma, snappy banter, and amusing facial expressions on MTV's "Singled Out", a modern version of "The Dating Game", made the seemingly stupid game show somehow captivating. The twenty-six-year old, former Playboy centerfold, has such a profound perkiness, that Hollywood producers inundated her with proposals for game shows, sitcoms, and talk shows. Not too many years ago, back in 1992, Jenny was struggling to scrape together enough money to continue with her second year of nursing studies at Southern Illinois University. As a result of a lack of finances, Jenny decided to pursue a modeling career. To her dismay, she was told that her body was too "curvy." What Jenny realized at first, was that Playboy prefers full-figured women over waifs. They also encouraged hand-delivered photographs of herself to the magazine's Chicago office. The editors were very impressed with what they saw, and paid McCarthy ,000 to pose as Miss October 1993. She became "Playmate of the Year" a couple of months later, and received 0,000 in cash and prizes. Now that Jenny was officially a "babe," she decided to move away from her home in Chicago. She had grown up there, with three sisters, her mom who stayed home, and her father, a steel-plant foreman. Her plan was to go to Los Angeles in search of stardom. Finding the right auditions in Hollywood turned out to be extremely difficult. It took persistent badgering from Ray Manzella, McCarthy's manager and boyfriend, to finally get an interview at MTV. MTV's network producer liked what he saw, and chose to hire Jenny as a CO-host for their new show "Singled Out," which would debut in 1995. The funny and beautiful "babe" proved tough enough to control the fifty testosterone-powerhouse contestants without bodily injury. Jenny became an immediate success.
MTV
did not want to lose their new star, and agreed on a one-year contract that
would pay Jenny 0,000. They promoted McCarthy to full-fledged VJ and gave her
free will to create a program of any format that would suit her talents. Jenny
subsequently abandoned her responsibility of hosting "Singled Out" in order to
concentrate on creating a new MTV series, "The Jenny McCarthy Show." She said
once that it's "kind of like 'Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous' on acid").
She also developed a sitcom for NBC called "Jenny". The show was supposed to
portray an East Coast grocery clerk who inherits a Hollywood mansion. Around
that same time, Playboy wished to reinstate their relationship with Jenny
McCarthy, offering her 0,000 for some more nude shots. When Jenny declined
their offer, she said that wasn't the direction she was presently pursuing,
and the magazine settled for reissuing old pictures again. Although she also
declined proposals from Fox and NBC, McCarthy is nonetheless venturing beyond
teen-oriented cable channels and gentlemen's magazines. She appeared as a
"blonde nurse" in Things To Do in Denver When You're Dead (1995) and, later,
portrayed her first substantive screen character (a neurotic movie star) in
The Stupids (1996), opposite Tom Arnold. It seems Jenny is heeding and
exceeding advice that her mother gave years ago: "Be like Vanna White."

Creative Management, 8942 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills, CA 90211, USA .
BIOGRAPHY SYNOPSIS: Julia Roberts will receive a healthy salary for her next movie. In fact, that remuneration will make her the first woman to break the “$20 million hump” broken years ago by male stars. The gal’s earned it, for seven of her films have surpassed the $100 million mark (hey, that’s more some of those guys’ flicks!), and her performances are consistent audience favorites. Robert’s “atypical beauty” -- clear-eyed sparkle, wholesome wide grin and charismatic presence — marks her as Hollywood’s “Girl Next Door Superstar.” Atypical as well was her road to success. After high school graduation, Roberts left her native Georgia and joined her actor-sister in New York. At age 19 she was cast as her actor-brother’s on-screen sister in the 1986 movie, Blood Red (released in 1989). She went on to roles in Firehouse (1987), Crime Story (TV - 1988), Satisfaction (TV - 1988), Before Your Eyes: Angelie’s Secret (TV - 1988), Baja Oklahoma (TV - 1988), and Miami Vice (TV episode - 1988). For her part in Mystic Pizza (1988) she received an Independent Spirit Award nomination. Important and award-winning roles in blockbuster pictures followed with Steel Magnolias (1989 - Golden Globe award and Oscar nomination), Pretty Woman (1990 - Oscar nomination and British Academy award nomination), Flatliners (1990), Sleeping With The Enemy (1991), and Dying Young (1991 - MTV Movie award nomination). Roberts
next role, in Hook (1991), was panned by critics and nominated for a Razzie
Worst Supporting Actress slam. A breakup with fiancé Keifer Sutherland just
days before the planned wedding was among the gossip column-fodder personal
problems that led to a year of seclusion and naught but a cameo appearance in
one film, The Player (1992). Light dawned. Roberts breathed new life into her
career in 1993 with The Pelican Brief (for which she received an MTV Movie
award). She married singer/songwriter/actor Lyle Lovett the same year, but the
media-dubbed “pretty woman - ugly duckling” couple lasted only 21 months. She
took on roles in Pret-a-Porter (1994), I Love Trouble (1994), A Century of
Cinema (TV - 1994), Something To Talk About (1995), Michael Collins (1996),
Everyone Says I Love You (1996), and Mary Reilly (1996 - oops, another Razzie
nomination). The next three years were very good: Roberts was cast in My Best
Friend’s Wedding (1997 - netting her a Golden Globe nomination, Golden
Satellite award, People’s Choice award, Blockbuster Entertainment award and
MTV Movie award), Conspiracy Theory (1997 - Blockbuster Entertainment award),
Stepmom (1998 - Roberts not only acted her way to a Blockbuster Entertainment
award, but was the successful film’s executive producer), Notting Hill (1999 -
Golden Globe nomination and People’s Choice award), and Runaway Bride (1999).
As well, Roberts was nominated for an Emmy for a guest appearance on the
television series Law and Order (1999), and has three times been on People
Magazine’s Best-Dressed list. Upcoming for this popular and talented
producer/actor are roles in Erin Brockovich, The Moviegoer, The Women, and,
tentatively, Beyond Borders, Oceans II, The Mexican, To Catch A Thief, Martha
and Arthur, and From Alice to Ocean. Roberts is on top of the Hollywood heap,
and no matter how high the salaries go, the good-as-gold performer is worth
every penny.
