THE BEST HOTELS OF NEW YORK
|
BY MAXIMILLIEN de LAFAYETTE The Lowell 28 East Sixty-Third
Street
Here is a small, upper East Side "Gem" of a hotel fit for royalty. It combines a European atmosphere with the warmth of a private home, and is located on a tree-lined street just steps from Madison Avenue boutiques, restaurants, and cafés. There are only 65 deluxe rooms and suites, individually decorated and furnished.
Each suite has marble bath, (56 have fully equipped kitchens), mini bars and gourmet snacks, home entertainment centers, and multi-line telephones with voicemail and pc/fax jacks. There are 44 suites; 33 have wood-burning fireplaces, 10 have private terraces.
|
The most romantic suite is the one-bedroom Garden Suite with two large terraces: one, a sitting area surrounded by a rose garden and fountains, and the other, a cozy vine-trellised dining area. A unique accommodation is the "Gym Suite" with his and her bathrooms, separate workout room for exercising in privacy, and overlooking Manhattan's skyline from a private terrace.
In the aristocratic ambiance of The Pembroke Room, breakfast, weekend brunch, and afternoon tea are served on hand-painted china.
Daily Double Rates: Deluxe Rooms $445. Suites $545 to $915. Two Bedroom Suites $1095-$1295. All major credit cards accepted. |
