CELEBRITIES OF THE YEAR: FROM THE MOST BORING TO THE MOST TALENTED

MOST TALENTED AND LUCKIEST CELEBRITIES

TORI SPELLING

Name: Tori Spelling. Birth Name: Victoria Davey Spelling. Height: 5'.6". Nationality: American. Birth Date: May 16, 1973. Birth Place: Los Angeles, California, USA. Occupation: Actress. Education: The Westlake School for Girls in Bel Air, California. Relationship: Vincent Young (actor; as Noah Hunter on Beverly Hills, 90210). Father: Aaron Spelling (producer of Beverly Hills, 90210; born on April 22, 1923). Mother: Carol Jean Spelling (married on November 23, 1968)  Brother: Randall Gene Spelling (actor). Claim to fame: as Donna Marie Martin in TV Series: Beverly Hills, 90210 (1990). Awards: She won Young Artist Award for Best Young Actress Guest-Starring in a Television Series in 1991 for SAVED BY THE BELL. Facts: Spelling has signed on with NBC to develop a sitcom about a young publicist working in New York City -- according to the Reporter, the idea for the untitled show is her own. (November 6, 2002). Agent: C/O Creative Artist Agency, 9830 Wilshire Blvd, Beverly Hills, Ca 90212, USA.

BIOGRAPHY SYNOPSIS: Tori Spelling had a small screen “in,” but it was the big screen that made her career. Daughter of influential television producer Aaron Spelling, the young Victoria Spelling, who later switched to her nickname for credits, began acting at age 8 with an appearance on the network television series Vega$.  The showbiz tyke’s first line was, “Hi, Uncle Dan.”  She went on to rise (or languish, say some) in primetime with parts in various series and TV movies, and the list reads like a history of ’80s television -- Shooting Stars (1983), Fantasy Island (1983), The Love Boat (1984), TJ Hooker (1984), Death of a Cheerleader (1984), Hotel (1985 and 1987 -- for the second episode Spelling received a Young Artist award), The Three Kings (1987), Monsters (1989), and Saved By The Bell (1990 - for another Young Artist award nomination). Spelling’s movie debut came with a role in Troop Beverly Hills (1989).  The next year it was back to television and small screen success when she was cast in Beverly Hills 90210 (an Aaron Spelling production).

That role is her most famous to date and the longest running, although the show is rumored to be ending this year.  The decade working for her dad included time off for the actor to continue with television appearances in Parker Lewis Can’t Lose (1992), Melrose Place (1992), Blossom (1993), Burke’s Law (1994), A Friend to Die For (1994), The Other Side of Dark/Awake to Murder (1995), Malibu Shores (1996), Mother May I Sleep With Danger? (1996), Deadly Pursuits (1996), Co-ed Call Girl (1996) and The Alibi (1997). Perhaps held back by her television success (and the inevitable accusations of nepotism), Spelling’s movie career did not truly begin until 1997, when the 24 year old actor was cast in The House of Yes.  Her performance was both lauded and mocked, for recognition at the Sundance Film Festival brought her further roles but she was “recognized,” too, with a Razzie Worst Actress nomination. Spelling put the positive recognition to use and went on to roles in the blockbuster Scream 2 (1997) and the Sundance hit Trick (1999 - for a Golden Satellite award nomination).  With the end of 90210 looming, Spelling is said to be looking at possible future television series and upcoming movies.  Her prospects are excellent.  She has 20 years of experience in the first, and new-found industry respect for the second.

Name: Tyra Banks. Height: 5'.11''. Nationality: American. Birth Date: December 4, 1973. Birth Place: Los Angeles, California. Occupation: Actress, supermodel. Education: Claremont McKenna College, Loyola Marymount College . Relationship: John Singleton. Brother: Devin (older). Facts: Banks will launch reality show SUPERMODEL – she will also serve as executive producer and a judge according to a statement from UPN entertainment president Dawn Ostroff. (October 30, 2002). Quotes: A smart model is a good model, Iliked college guys but they could tell I was just a skinny girl. Maxim. Issue 32. Agent: C/O Innovative Artists, 1999 Avenue of the Stars 2100, Los Angeles, CA 90067, USA.

BIOGRAPHY SYNOPSIS: Tyra was born in Los Angeles on December 4th, 1973, to a very loving and supportive family. Despite the divorce of her parents when she was only six years old, and the torments of her older brother Devin, Tyra's youth was happy and trouble-free. Though it might now be hard to believe, Tyra was a tall, skinny and awkward adolescent. She was constantly teased by her brother and her classmates, and often ran home crying to her mother for comfort. Then, late in high school, everything changed for her. She filled out her skinny frame, began to work out and finally decided to become a model. Tyra pursued that goal with the determination that now marks all of her activities. And after being turned down by four modeling agencies because they thought her face wasn't photogenic, she was finally signed by the Elite agency when she was 17. So, instead of going to Loyola Marymount College, Tyra moved to Paris for a year and modeled for many of the big names in fashion, including Ralph Lauren and Chanel. She then moved back to the States and continued modeling, rocketing her way up through the ranks. Soon Tyra began to diversify her activities, having a small part in the British television movie, Inferno as a supermodel, and then appearing on Will Smith's Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in a recurring supporting role. Tyra's first real movie role came in John Singleton's Higher Learning. She played Omar Epps' track-running girlfriend and though it was a small role, critics were impressed by the intensity she brought to the screen. She was definitely not just another supermodel playing at being an actress -- her performance was the real thing. She even did some distance-running training, in order to turn in a more believable performance.

CELEBRITIES OF THE YEAR: FROM THE MOST BORING TO THE MOST TALENTED

MOST TALENTED AND LUCKIEST CELEBRITIES

TYRA BANKS

When the film came out, movie offers began to roll in, but Tyra chose not to act in just anything. Instead, she continued her meteoric rise in the modeling ranks, appearing on the covers of several magazines.  In fact, she was the first African-American woman ever to be featured on the covers of GQ magazine, the Victoria's Secret catalog, and the famous Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. She made People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful" list not once, but twice, and even wrote a revealing book about her life, Tyra's Beauty Inside & Out. She also had a few high-profile relationships, first with John Singleton and then with pop singer Seal. She is rumored to have gone out with Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and... Mark Messier? Strangely enough, yes. Sick of the constant scrutiny inherent in celebrity relationships, she returned to her high school sweetheart, a law student; but that didn't protect her from the rumors, most recently linking her with LA Lakers Kobe Bryant, Rick Fox, and even Teresa Weatherspoon, who plays for New York in the WNBA. In interviews, however, Tyra often says that she is looking for a "Normal Guy", albeit a tall one -- she measures 5'11". Tyra appeared in one or two movies during this time, but only really began to work in Hollywood last year, with a small part in Love Stinks. Then, the year 2000 brought with it a supporting role in the popular independent film Love & Basketball, and a starring role in the made-for-TV Disney movie Life-Size (in which she played a doll brought to life by a wish). Now an important part in Coyote Ugly has brought Tyra back into the limelight. She plays a wild bartender, which is quite ironic because she has said several times that she doesn't drink alcohol. She doesn't watch what she eats, though, unlike most other models; she has gone on record stating that she often eats barbecued ribs, fried chicken wings, ice cream, and fast-food. In one talk show appearance, Tyra proclaimed her love for Ketchup packets, and argued that the sole purpose of French fries was to allow you to scoop up puddles of ketchup. So how does she stay in shape? She plays lots of sports, particularly basketball and tennis, and makes sure she always has fun while exercising. The future looks bright for Tyra Banks. She stars in two upcoming movies, one of which -- Disney's Honey Thunder Dunk -- she will also be producing, she is one of the richest supermodels in the world, with a personal wealth recently valued at 8.8 million dollars, and there were even rumors a few months ago that Oprah Winfrey is grooming her to take over her show.

YAMILA DIAZ

Name: Yamila Diaz. Birth Name: Yamila Diaz-Rahi. Nationality: Argentinian. Birth Date: 1978. Birth Place: Buenos Aires, Argentinia. Occupation: Model. Facts: She is the new spokesperson for Cover Girl, and is a regular in the most recent Victoria's Secret catalogues. She was the first Latina spokesperson in Cover Girl history.

BIOGRAPHY SYNOPSIS: Yamila Diaz Rahi was born in Argentina, to a doctor father and an old folks home manager mother. Of Lebanese and Spanish descent, Yamila and her two sisters, Maria and Yael, were raised in Argentina. With no original intention to become a model, everything changed for Yamila when she was spotted by a modeling agency scout in Buenos Aires, where Yamila was an Economics student. After this chance encounter, she flew to Milan where her career as a model began. It took a while for the exotic beauty to break through, and she started off by doing department store catalogues for several years. But it was after her work in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Calendar in 1999 that Yamila skyrocketed to model status. Everyone from Glamour to Cosmopolitan took notice, as did the people at Victoria's Secret. After Yamila modeled lingerie for every man's favorite catalogue, it was no secret that Yamila would appear on the cover of magazines worldwide. Since her swimsuit and lingerie modeling stint, Yamila has graced the covers of Marie Claire, Elle (US and Spain), the European editions of Max, GQ and Shape. Yamila also joined the beautiful bevy of models for the 2000 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, including Estella Warren and Laetitia Casta. In addition to her work with the Newport News catalogue, Yamila has recently appeared as one of the newest "Cover Girl" models, joining Niki Taylor, and has also appeared in ads for Replay jeans, Ungaro's "Fleur de Diva" perfume, and Italian cosmetics "Bio-Etyc". She may not be strutting down the runways for big name designers just yet, but Yamila has just been cast in an important movie role, to appear in an Italian feature film entitled Il pesce innamorato ("Love of the Fishes"), along with Italian actor Leonardo Pieraccioni. Since it was luck that got her to where she is, Yamila has never allowed herself to develop the diva attitude many models are known for, despite the glamorous life she now leads. With the short life span of models, she recognizes that her looks are not enough of an attribute. This is why the South American beauty broadens her achievements by developing her language skills -- learning Italian and English -- and delving into literature, most notably Brazilian writers.  Yamila currently resides in Manhattan, with her boyfriend, Italian artist, Giuliano.
