CONCERT
"O JERUSALEM” CONCERT
June 6, 7:00 pm

Featuring the Ariel Winds Woodwind Quintet
In honor of Jerusalem Day--an Israeli holiday honoring the storied city--the Ariel Winds Woodwind Quintet will perform at the Synagogue for the Arts in Tribeca. The program includes repertoire of five composers: the Overture to Leonard Bernstein’s opera Candide, Felix Mendelssohn’s Scherzo from Midsummer’s Night Dream, Maurice Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite, and Darius Milhaud’s La Chiminee du Roi René. In tribute to the special occasion, the concert will conclude with the Quintet’s arrangement of Naomi Shemer’s popular hit, “Jerusalem of Gold.” Founded at The Juilliard School in 1998, Ariel Winds is an all-female woodwind quintet. Hailed as "technically brilliant, refined and innovative" and for playing with "effervescent enthusiasm," Ariel Winds’ exuberance and approachability have enchanted audiences in the most prestigious concert venues.

Riverside Symphony featuring Israeli-American pianist Shai Wosner

David Crumb - Vestiges of a Distant Time (NY Premiere) / Haydn - Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major / Honegger - Concertino /
Mendelssohn - Symphony No. 4 in A major "Italian" .
The extraordinary young Israeli-American pianist Shai Wosner joins the orchestra in explorations of two marvelous though rarely heard solo works. Haydn's exquisite concerto - a reminder of how much this 18th-century master's expressively rich and inventive music awaits discovery by a wider public - is answered by Arthur Honeggter's irresistible neo-classical gem. Mendelssohn's beloved musical memoir and David Crumb's luminous, gently haunting essay frame the program.
