KIKI
SMITH: WORLD CLASS ARTIST. TWO THUMBS UP!
Kiki
Smith is unquestionably, one of world's leading figures in sculpture,
printmaking and possibly installation, for her art transcends the
frontier of images and icons. This woman is a walking art encyclopedia
with unsurpassed talent. Ms. Smith is American, born in Germany in
1954. The contemporary world of art and design considers her as among
the most illustrious artists of our time. She lives and exhibits in
New York and around the world. This week, she is on our list as one of
the best artists of New York. Most recently, Ms. Smith has enormously
contributed to the Rubin Museum of Art. The
" Etikett", by
Renate Aller: The Flag Project is in fact, a concept by Kiki Smith
and Arlene Shechet for the Opening Ceremonie of the Rubin Museum of
Art.

IKEA'S KELLY
A. FISHER AND DEBBI ROBINSON ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST!
Difficult people make our lives miserable. Easy going and real
people make our lives easy and so enjoyable. Once, a student at La
Sorbonne University in Paris asked the French philosopher Jean
Paul Sartre: "Master, where is hell?" And Sartre replied " L'ENFER
C'EST LES AUTRES!". Meaning verbatim "HELL IS OTHERS". He meant
difficult people and all those who don't have heart are hell on
earth. I served the hospitality industry for 20 years in the
United States, Europe and the Middle East. And the hospitality
business, including food service is the place where par
excellence, you find difficult and loveable people. Especially in
the human resources department. I know that department very well.
Because I have trained so many directors of human resources in
huge and small size hotels and restaurants. Very recently, I met
the best of the best of people: Kelly A. Fisher, IKEA's human
resources manager and Debbi Robinson, recruitment and succession
planning specialist at IKEA. Of course, they had no idea about
what I have done or what I can do in the fields of food and human
resources. But that is fine. Because I am not the topic here. They
ARE! In my 20 years of experience and hard labor in the food
business, I have never met people who are more considerate,
likable and real like Kelly A. Fisher and Debbi Robinson. In my
book, they are the best of the best. La crème de la crème. And
that makes them the guests of honors of the month. Also, it makes
IKEA, one of the best places or companies to work for. Both ladies
work under the leadership of a very bright Jewish executive, Paul
Steinway.

THE RUBIN MUSEUM OF ART: ONE OF THE BEST IDEAS AND PLACES IN NEW

The
Rubin Museum of Art (RMA) is a cultural and educational
institution dedicated to the art of the Himalayas. Its mission is
to establish, present, preserve and document a permanent
collection that reflects the vitality, complexity and historical
significance of Himalayan art and to create exhibitions and
programs designed to explore connections with other world
cultures. RMA is committed to addressing a diverse audience - from
connoisseurs and scholars to the general public and young
children. Through its collection, library, exhibitions and
educational programs, RMA will become an international center for
the preservation, study and enjoyment of Himalayan art." This
is a superb endeavor which enriches the plateau and the world of

The literature of
the museum defines The Rubin Museum of Art (RMA) as the home to a
comprehensive collection of art from the Himalayas and surrounding
regions. The artistic heritage of this vast and culturally varied
area of the world remains relatively obscure. Through changing
exhibitions and an array of engaging public programs, RMA offers
opportunities to explore the artistic legacy of the Himalayan
region and to appreciate its place in the context of world
cultures. The RMA collection consists of paintings, sculptures,
and textiles. Although works of art range in date over two
millennia, most reflect major periods and schools of Himalayan art
from the 12th century onward. The exhibitions are organized with
particular care to assist viewers who are new to Himalayan art.
Wall texts and interpretive panels supply aesthetic, social, and
historical perspectives to both scholars and casual viewers. The
Explore Art Galleries on the 3rd and 5th floors (with a video
alcove on the 6th floor) take the viewer behind the scenes,
answering questions about why and for whom the art was made.
Books, paintings, photographs, artifacts, and computer terminals
accessing the Museum's website and affiliated sites offer other

FIRST CLASS CHANTEUSE IN NEW YORK CITY
BARBARA LOWIN
 New
York City is the Mecca of music, shows, theater, cabaret, art and
entertainment. The nightlife is abundant with spectacular shows
and outstanding local, national/international stars and artists .
Some names shine for ever. Others fade away. Others are frequently
remembered and haunt us. Among those fabulous cabaret stars, are
Barbara Lowin. You got to see her cabaret premiere and new

Russian and English as a native. This is a superb chanteuse at

The art of the
Himalayas is based on sacred traditions of the Buddhist, Bon, and
Hindu religions. Made manifest as idealized portraits created
throughout the Himalayas and central Asia, the founders and
followers of these religions are depicted in iconic poses with
meaningful gestures. The stories told by these portraits describe
the earlier times, the relationships, and the teachings that make
up that sacred history.

This new book is the most complete survey yet of Smith's printed
art. Published to accompany an exhibition at The Museum of
Modern Art in the winter of 2003-4, it documents her work in the
medium, beginning with her first screenprint, made in 1980, and
includes works that were in progress as this book was being
written. Also featured is an eight-page printed work that Smith
created especially for this book. An innovative experimenter,
Smith has investigated many kinds of printmaking, from
traditional techniques such as etching and lithography to newer,
simpler processes such as rubber stamp and photocopy, not to
mention artist's books and multiples including blankets and
fabric dolls. Kiki Smith: Prints, Books, and Things offers a
crucial record of an underacknowledged side of Smith's work. In
doing so, it argues powerfully for the importance of printmaking
in contemporary art. Includes 137 color plates, 16 color and 19
black and white illustrations.
